How does an industrial basket strainer work ?

An industrial basket strainer operates by utilizing a mesh screen to trap small particles that pass through it. The strainer's perforation area determines the size of the particles it can catch, which is typically expressed as the number of openings per linear inch. While small particles may be able to pass through the screen, larger ones are prevented from doing so. These screens are typically made of stainless steel and come in various sizes, ranging from 16 to 100.

Basket strainers are commonly used in a variety of applications, including the manufacture of paint. Filtration systems ensure that the paint remains smooth and free of unwanted solids that could affect its application. These devices are capable of filtering a variety of materials and can protect downstream equipment.

Fluids enter the basket strainer through the inlet and exit through the outlet. The strainer's mesh screen traps any large objects or debris present in the fluid while allowing clean fluid to pass through the outlet. However, as debris accumulates in the basket, the outlet flow rate decreases. Once the pressure exceeds a certain threshold, a blowing port in the basket opens and removes all of the collected debris to maintain adequate inlet and outlet pressure. This is how an industrial basket strainer operates.
